About South Mainland Shetland
| Situated at the southern tip of Shetland,
the Northernmost of the British Isles, Nordagerdi
is an ideal base from which to explore the
islands. Interesting sites to visit within
a couple of miles of the cottage include the
historic Jarlshof viking settlement, Old Scatness
Broch excavations, |

Quendale Water Mill, and the Croft House Museum
at Boddam.
For visitors interested in birdwatching,
Nordagerdi is in a prime location, with the impressive
seabird colony at Sumburgh Head close by, along
with the renowned migrant hotspots of Grutness,
Scatness, Sumburgh Lighthouse, Quendale and of
course the Pool of Virkie, which really is on
the doorstep!
Four of Shetland’s finest beaches, at Grutness,
West Voe of Sumburgh, Quendale and Scousburgh,
are close to the cottage. Local amenities include
the restaurant and bar at Sumburgh Hotel, a shop
and post office at Toab, and the larger shop and
petrol station near Boddam. The cottage is close
to a bus route which can take visitors to Lerwick
and beyond.
